In one of the previous posts we mentioned that the film “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!” is a traditional New Year’s Eve movie in Russia. Today we invite you to enjoy this movie in the same way as Russians do.
The story described in the film takes place in the mid-1970s. Eugene, a 36-year-old surgeon and bachelor who is thinking about proposing to his girlfriend, is going to the public bathhouse with his friends, as they do it every year. There, he accidentally drinks a little bit too much, and his friends, by mistake, send him on a plane flying to Leningrad, instead of another person.
The plot is based on the fact that typical buildings in the residential areas of Russian cities did not differ much from each other, and the streets often have the same names. Arriving in Leningrad, not knowing where he is and still under the influence of alcohol, Eugene tells the address to a taxi driver, and the taxi brings him to a similar building in which he lives in Moscow. By chance, his key fits the lock of the door of someone else’s apartment with the same address, and he quietly walks into the apartment and falls asleep on a sofa. The most interesting thing begins when a woman, the owner of the Leningrad apartment, returns home and discovers an uninvited guest there.
The film was shot in 1975 and consists of two parts. This kind and in some places unrealistic movie is loved by all Russians.
Today, you can watch this movie with Russian, English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese subtitles here.
